Shara Hughes (b. 1981, Atlanta, GA) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and later attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Recent solo exhibitions include the Newport Art Museum (Newport, RI), Berggruen Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Rachel Uffner Gallery (New York, NY), Baldwin Gallery (Aspen, CO), Gallery Met (New York, NY), and The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (Atlanta, GA), among others. Hughes has recently participated in group exhibitions at MASS MoCA (North Adams, MA), Galerie Eva Presenhuber (Zürich, Switzerland), Phillip Haverkampf Gallery (Berlin, DE), Jack Hanley Gallery (New York, NY), and the High Museum of Art (Atlanta, GA). Hughes was also included in the 2017 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, NY). Her work is in the permanent collections of The Dallas Museum of Art (Dallas, TX), The Denver Art Museum (Denver, CO), The High Museum of Art (Atlanta, GA), The Jorge M. Perez Collection (Miami, FL), The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, NY), The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (Atlanta, GA), The North Carolina Museum of Art (Raleigh, NC), The Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington, D.C.), and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, NY) among others. Hughes is represented by Rachel Uffner Gallery in New York and Galerie Eva Presenhuber in Zurich.
